Did you know that you get lifetime*
access to the class? It's not to late to join us! (*see class description for details).
We've got a new shipment of
Peerless Watercolors in! Get them while they last it will be 4 weeks before get our next shipment!
One of the questions we are asked most frequently about A Walk in the Park - an online sketchbook adventure and tour of Disneyland is, “What about Walt Disney World?”.
- What if you are going to Disney World, not Disneyland on your next vacation?
- What if you’ve never been to Disneyland before?
- What if you like Disney World better and wish the class was about *that* park?
- What if you’ve never been to any of the parks and don’t think you will be able to go in the near future?
- Why not include both parks in this class?
To the bigger question, “Is A Walk in the Park the right class for me?”, our answer is a resounding YES!!! We think you will LOVE it no matter which of these situations applies to you.
Why? There are many reasons this class is based on Disneyland, including the fact that this is the park Tangie has been to countless times (literally too many to count in her lifetime!) and she has been to Disney World only once, 19 years ago. Disneyland is where her passion for all things Disney and her fascination with the magic of Walt’s vision came to life. We will share additonal reasons in future blog posts.
More importantly, we would like to be sure you understand the true purpose and content of this online workshop:
-
ART. We want to teach you about art journaling, what it is, how to use a travel journal, basic water coloring skills, and what supplies you need to accomplish this. The concepts you will learn apply to ANY park, destination, or location you can dream up! Since first using her travel journal at Disneyland, Tangie now takes one with her wherever she goes, including Seattle, Colorado, her favorite Mexican food restaurant, and even her own backyard!
-
JOURNALING. We will teach you how to identify your dreams and find motivation to follow them! Tangie shares journaling ideas, dream spilling prompts, and fun activities to help you enjoy the journey of life with more passion. As Disney lovers, we can’t think of a better place to do this than the incredibly happy park where Walt Disney himself used his hands and heart to build from the ground up! Disneyland is where *his* dreams came to life, it is where he walked often and we can literally follow in his footsteps to tap into the rich history there.
The fun facts, attractions, photos and videos of Disneyland we share are just the icing on the cake. If you’ve never been there, this is your chance to learn about it! If you love it already, this is your chance to experience it in a brand new way. Also, the maps of Disneyland and Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom are pretty similar, our tour could easily take place at either park!
To sum it all up, two of Tangie’s biggest passions are art journaling and Disney. A Walk in the Park is where these wonderful worlds collide. Tangie shares her unique insights in hope that you will experience the magic of both in your own lives. We’d love to have you join us for this adventure!
A Walk in the Park is designed to begin at any time and you can go at your own pace with lifetime access to the classroom!

Hello magicteers! Hope you are all having a wonderful week! I've been asked what you absolutely need bare minimum to take this course and get the most out of it. I have a couple of suggestions for you!
1. If you just are starting out you can use ANYTHING you have around your house. Kid's watercolors, watercolor pencils, card stock, whatever you can find. Results will vary by the supplies you have but, you have unlimited access to the class so you can upgrade your supplies as you go along. It's far better to get creative with ANYTHING you have around than to not participate, just start somewhere!
2. If you have $20 to spend on supplies for the bare minimums these 5 items are what you need. A watercolor journal or watercolor pad, paint brush, crayola watercolors or other kid's brand, black waterproof pen and a pencil with eraser.
3. If you want what I will be using in the videos (my favorite things after trying a lot of products!), I recommend the following to get started, all of which we carry in our store (click links to find more info).
If you have any questions please feel free to contact us, my staff and I will do our best to help you!
Here's to the magic!
We are too! We'd love for you to share your enthusiasm on social media! Hashtags #artjournalingthemagic #sketchbookadventure (just right click the image to save to your computer OR if you are on a mobile device just press down on the image and hold, an option to save the image to your camera roll should come up)
We're excited about this new streamlined home on the web! Everything you need to "art journal the magic" in one easy place. We'll be able to post more relevant updates here on our blog and keep in touch with our new and improved email newsletter! We hope you'll look around and please use the "

You can read Part 1 of this review {here} which was posted earlier. Thursday was Day 3 of our great Halloweentime art journaling adventure. We all met up at the Main Street Train Station and a few of us worked in our journals while waiting to board.
Here we are on the train! We took up an entire row and had a great time together seeing all the sights. This picture is a favorite!
Later we all watched Mickey and the Magical Map together - love this show! Then we strolled over to Toon Town where we each shared a favorite page from our journals. It was very inspiring to watch how each person expressed themselves and their progress through their art pages. For many of us it was a very touching experience!
We love the Golden Book Journals that Dave made for us!
Friday we spent the day in California Adventure, where we all attended the Disney Animation Academy together - 4 times!!! Yes, we love it that much!
They provide paper for you to use, but most of us sketched right inside our journals. We got to draw Minnie Mouse, Pluto, Baymax (before the movie was even released!) and Olaf.
Later, we found a nice shady spot at Cocina Cucamonga near the Pacific Wharf to set up journal camp.
We had a few special treats that afternoon. Sammy made one of her darling watercolor portraits of each of us and gave it to us as a gift! Aren't they great?!
...and Sammy and Stacy were celebrating their October birthdays that day. The mariachis happened to see the buttons Tangie got and serenaded us. There's no better place to celebrate than the Happiest Place on Earth!
We finished out our day together at the Aladdin musical and then played in Cars Land. It was a great day in CA!
Saturday was the 5th and final day of our retreat. This was an extra bonus day the schedule allowed for and we were so happy everyone was able to stay! We were especially glad to have Susan fly in and join us for this one day option! She got right to work in her journal at our morning camp at the Riverbelle Terrace.
Later we moved our camp over to the Big Thunder Ranch Halloween Carnival. We enjoyed working in our journals while watching the magic show, pumpkin carving, character greetings, and all kinds of other festive happenings.
We had 5 challenges to complete during the week, 1 for each day.
Sarah came all the way from Australia!
The Day 2 Challenge was to draw "water". Lori had the perfect idea!
The Day 1 Challenge was to draw a candy apple.
For our last evening together, we all met up in California Adventure for one last journal camp at the Paradise Garden Grill patio where we had front row viewing for the Pixar Parade. Then we made our way to the Wine Country Trattoria for a delicious 3-course meal and reserved seating at World of Color. This show is amazing every time and was the ideal ending to our week!
World of Color. We missed Allyson and Lori who had early flights to catch! It was hard saying goodbye to all our friends after such a wonderful week, but we are so grateful for each and every one who was part of this group and all the fun we had together! Special thanks to Tangie and Mindy for hosting another exceptional retreat, and thank you to all our students for being part of the magic! {February 2015 Registration will be opening very soon! We hope you can join us!}

YOU CAN STILL BE PART OF THE MAGIC by taking the ONLINE CLASS
Our second workshop retreat at Disneyland was a wonderful success! It was every bit as fun as the first workshop in February, and a brand new exciting adventure being there in October. We got to experience Halloweentime in the Park (AMAZING!!!), meet and enjoy a new group of fabulous friends (plus a few returning students!), and we accomplished a whole lot of Disney-themed art journaling in our Golden Book Journals. There were so many fun moments that it will be difficult to do it justice, but we will try to capture some of the highlights of the week below if you'd like to come along on a little adventure down memory lane! We were thrilled to have Mindy Lacefield join us again as our guest teacher! Monday night, Tangie and Mindy hosted an exclusive pre-workshop dinner at Tortilla Joe's in Downtown Disney. This is quickly becoming one of our favorite traditions! The table-side guacamole is DELICIOUS. We loved getting acquainted with everyone and listening to our hosts share some of their experiences and tips for running an art business. We forgot to get a picture with the whole group, but were so happy to have Kami, one of our returning students, join us for dinner.
Tuesday morning we met at Rainforest Cafe in our favorite "classroom" with the giant aquarium. We loved the ambiance of this space so much last time that we had to come back! After enjoying a wonderful 3-course breakfast, Tangie and Mindy inspired us with their live art demos and instruction on how to sketch and use the peerless water colors. This was a perfect complement to the online course and videos. It is always amazing to watch these talented ladies work their magic!
The whole group at Rainforest Cafe: Mindy, Allyson, Sarah, Lori, Sammy, Kathy, Betty, Stacy, Angela, Tangie (minus Amy and Susan, who joined us later in the week).[/caption] Following the workshop we all headed into Disneyland! It was a warm and busy autumn day as we made our way down Main Street, taking in all the first glorious sights and smells of Halloweentime! The Golden Horseshoe Review in Frontierland was the perfect place to set up camp and start working in our journals.
Tuesday evening we all met up in Fantasyland to watch the Soundsational Parade and ride It's a Small World together. We had a blast!
The line was short enough that we all rode together a second time and did some fast sketching in our journals while on the ride. It was so much fun and really pushed us to just draw without thinking too long about it so we could capture as much as possible in a short time. This is a must try activity!
Wednesday we started our day on the patio of La Brea Bakery in Downtown Disney. It was a beautiful morning and a very nice spot to exchange our trades. Everyone brought fabulous goodies to share! Here's a peek at some of the fun items:
Opening all those trades felt like Christmas! But the fun wasn't over... Tangie had a fantastic challenge activity for us to do. We were each assigned a simple object to sketch and watercolor (candy, tree, door, etc.), but the catch was that we had to make enough original copies to share with everyone in the group! It turned out to be one of our favorite group activities and we will all treasure having this collection of original art from each of our new friends!
Wednesday afternoon we all got dressed up for Mickey's Halloween Party! This was the first time most of us had attended this special event, which features festive decorations, trick-or-treating, Mickey's Costume Party Cavalcade parade, the Halloween Screams - A Villainous Surprise in the Skies Fireworks show, character greetings, and other live entertainment and activities. Wow! There was plenty of fun to be had by all. Just seeing all the costumes people wore was a treat - some of them were truly amazing!
Part of the group took a guided tour, which included walking right on to some of the spookiest rides of the night and other yummy treats.
Mindy worked in her art journal while waiting for the tour to begin.
Here's Amy and Sammy Trick-or-Treating. Chocolate please!!!
In between all the festivities we even managed to fit in some art journaling! The Jolly Holiday patio was a great spot for watching the parade and seeing creative costumes go by...
... and eating delicious Halloween treats from the bakery!
It was a magical night, and our incredible week wasn't even half way over at this point! If you'd like to see what we did the last three days, stay tuned for Part 2.
If you have any questions about the workshop please reply here or email us using the Contact Us form on this website.
YOU CAN STILL BE PART OF THE MAGIC by taking the ONLINE CLASS
When we went for a FAST trip in November I took lots of pictures of the empty chair in front of me thinking about how awesome it would be if you were there! There is still time to join us for the workshop! Come be part of the magic!
And just a little peek at how fun it is to sit for a moment, soak up all that Disney imagination with a great box of popcorn and journal your heart out. You do NOT have to be an artist to participate, ANYONE can draw well enough for this class (I PROMISE YOU THAT!). Join me in the next chair, I'd love to share my popcorn.
I was so ECSTATIC to be on the capturingmagic.me podcast this week! You can get all the details from the podcast and where listen to it [HERE] or go directly to the podcast on Touringplans Podcast Network [HERE]. I loved talking about the new adventure we are about to embark on! You can "listen" to me talk more about the finer details of the workshop and what we'll be doing at the Parks. I know this is just going to be an amazing time and I so hope you'll join us. If you have any questions you can use the "contact us" form and I'll get back to you personally in less than 24 hours.
UPDATE YOU CAN LISTEN TO THE PODCAST RIGHT HERE!
I've also been eagerly watching my Instagram feed all this last week waiting to see what new adventure "Minnie Me" has been on because the owner of CapturingMagic.me (Steph) has been in Disneyland all week! I thought it might be fun to capture some of her adventures on "paper"!
